Today Toys & Stuff continues its look at the accessories that primarily came with the Marxville series of buildings marketed for their 3-rail O-gauge trains. Enjoy!
Trees
The trees included with the Marxville buildings were flat, green, hard plastic (and later, soft plastic) and were also found in many Marx playsets and include; the ‘A’ (or ‘Delta’) style, Full, Scraggly tree, and a soft plastic tree row which could be split into two separate groups of trees. These designations were originated and published by noted playset collector Timothy J. Geppert. Regardless of what the advertisements or box tops showed any of these trees could have been substituted for the other. Not pictured here is the dead tree and stumps often found in Marx playsets. I'll have to get on the ball and take some photos of them :-)

Board Fence
The simple board fence was a ubiquitous
accessory in the Marxville plastic buildings.
It came primarily in white hard plastic but was sold in some train sets
and playsets as brown. The white fence seems to yellow quite badly and often times is so yellow-ish it almost resembles the Marx ivory colored accessories. The brown fence is very rare and tends to be pricey.
Early K-Line small board fence sections were
white, hard plastic and indistinguishable from Marx. They were later changed to soft plastic.

Police
and Fire Station Accessories (PL 543 Mold Group)
The Police and Fire Station Accessories Mold
Group consisted of ten small accessories intended for use along the streets of
Marxville and came in red or yellow hard plastic. As they were all part of one mold group it is
logical to assume that any building listing the inclusion of these on the box
top (‘ACCESSORIES INCLUDED’) would have contained all ten, yet that is not
often the case. Many of the references
used for this work only list a partial set.
Where possible I have tried to confirm the inclusion of all ten
accessories through Internet sales. The
group consists of:
1. Lamp post
2. Street sign
3. Parking meter
4. Police call box
5. Mail box
6.
‘FIRE ZONE’ sign
7. ‘STOP’ sign
8. Trash can
9. Bench
10.
Fire hydrant
Freight House Accessories (PL-376 Mold Group)
The Freight House Accessories Mold Group
consisted of five small accessories in red or silver-gray hard plastic and was
included with several Marxville buildings.
As they were all part of one mold group it is logical to assume that any
building listing the inclusion of these on the box top would have contained all five. However,
some of the references used for this work only list a partial set. Where possible I have tried to confirm the
inclusion of all five accessories through Internet sales. The group consists of:
1. Large handtruck
2. Small handtruck w/luggage
3. Baggage cart w/up-turned
handles
4. Baggage cart w/’T’-handle
5. Bench
