Sanchis Lockheed C-5 Galaxy - OD HP

We have a treat for the airplane lover today, this gorgeous, and BIG C-5 Galaxy from the Spanish firm of Sanchis. This is probably the biggest single toy we've posted to-date. Playsets are big of course but they're made up of a multitude of smaller components but this thing is huge as toy airplanes go. Pre-assembled, except for the removable vertical stabilizer section, the plane has a nose cone which swings up like the prototype and a ramp which you can pull out to facilitate loading of small sized vehicles in the cargo bay.

Among the largest military aircraft in the world it has been in operation since 1969 but it had a long and rocky road to development. It was the first program to have a $1billion OVERRUN - yikes! For those who keep up with aviation developments this long and storied history of Lockheed price gouging continues with the as-yet-to-be proven-worth-a damn F-35 program. Only time will tell if the F-35 is a success but the C-5, fortunately, has proven its value in operations worldwide - and has given us collectors an excuse to acquire cool toys :-)

The Sanchis version is about 1/72nd scale and measures 23 3/4" (60.32cm) L x 21" (53.34cm) wingspan x 6 1/2" (16.51cm) H. Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina

That's a B-I-G airplane!

The square box has three different series of art on the sides with one scene being repeated.

I tried loading several small vehicles in the cargo bay with mixed results

This Pyro truck? - no luck

This Gilmark Howitzer Carrier? - no luck

This Lido Jeep? - Success!

    1. I lucked out and found it on eBay many years ago. I haven't seen one since but have seen pictures of these in other colors in other people's collections.
