Sooner or later we just had to get around to The Munsters - the sitcom from 1964-66 that took Frankenstein, The Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula, et al turned them into nice guys, made them all family and changed how we all looked at Hollywood monsters from that moment on. One of the great things about '60s TV was the custom cars that kept popping up on shows like the now iconic Batmobile, The Munsters Koach (which we'll feature sometime this week), and the Monkee Mobile. Add to that list this awesome coffin hot rod the Drag-U-La designed by Tom Daniels while working for George Barris and Barris Custom Industries. I found this quote from Wikipedia to be very amusing,
"The fiberglass body of DRAG-U-LA was built from a real fiberglass coffin that Richard "Korky" Korkes was able to purchase from a funeral home in North Hollywood. Korky Korkes stated in 2013, it was illegal to sell a coffin without a death certificate. Korky made a deal with the funeral director, paid in cash, and it was agreed the coffin would be left outside the rear door of the funeral parlor where the Barris crew would collect it after dark."
A modern day version of body snatchers, only this time it would be the 'body' of a hot rod! hahahaha The car apparently now rests at the Volo Auto Museum in Volo, Illinois.
The Johnny Lightning version is a nice little rendition in 1/64 scale and even has a working 'cockpit' which raises on its hinge. 3" (7.62cm) L x 1 1/8" (2.85cm) W x 7/8" (2.22cm) H Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina
